The Lake Champlain Maritime Museum received a NOAA Bay Watershed Education and Training (B-WET) program grant to develop teacher trainings focused on promoting locally relevant, experiential learning in the K-12 environment. The Maritime Museum has partnered with Lake Champlain Sea Grant UVM Watershed Alliance to incorporate current information on riparian corridors and buffers as well as shoreland protection and stream assessment methods and exploration of macroinvertebrates, fish communities and plankton. 

Three trainings will be held, all unique to the environments teachers will visit. The July session will be a field test for river corridor assessment, including map analysis, flood vulnerability, and field exercises. The September and October sessions will be locally relevant watershed science activities you can do in your classroom, including fishing, macroinvertebrate identification, plankton netting and river corridor mapping. The sessions will be held 8:30-3:00. 

Registration is required, but trainings are free! Expense reimbursement and free equipment rental available. T-shirts will be provided as well as refreshments. 

We'll get out into beautiful Vermont and New York streams. Please join us in July, September, or October, or all three trainings!
