Anna Marchessault Joins Lake Champlain Sea Grant
Lake Champlain Sea Grant has hired Anna Marchessault as a program assistant to support administration of its research and outreach programs, as well as those of the Vermont Water Resources and Lake Studies Center and the Northeastern States Research Cooperative. Anna begins her role, which will be based at the University of Vermont (UVM), in early April 2022.
A 2021 UVM graduate from the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources, Anna earned her bachelor’s degree in natural resources with a concentration in ecology and a minor in community development. Her academic background and past internship and job experiences fit well with the mission of Lake Champlain Sea Grant to share science-based knowledge to benefit the environment and economies of the Lake Champlain basin.
"I am excited to support research projects that will benefit my community and local ecology while also learning about innovative solutions to local problems,” said Anna. “I look forward to working with a passionate team that values research and community education."
Anna brings relevant experience that includes teaching science to young Vermont elementary school students, organizing the Vermont Youth Climate Council event, and analyzing the environmental impacts of ReSOURCE Vermont’s thrift stores.
With the Vermont Public Interest Research Group, Anna managed donor accounts, developed an environmental justice working group, oversaw virtual canvassing during COVID-19, and assisted with its strategic plan. She also helped to launch the Legislative Research Service at UVM and conducted research for Vermont legislators, planned events, and communicated with news media and the public.
At Burlington Vermont’s Intervale Conservation Nursery, Anna planted and pulled native trees grown without synthetic fertilizers for planting as part of riparian restoration projects throughout the state. She also interned on a conservation and reforestation project in the country of Cambodia where she worked with local communities.
