Can We Talk? Difficult Conversations with Underrepresented People of Color: Sense of Belonging & Obstacles to STEM Fields
You are invited to a virtual screening of Dr. Kendall Moore’s documentary film “Can We Talk? Difficult Conversations with Underrepresented People of Color: Sense of Belonging and Obstacles to STEM Fields.” View a trailer of the film.
This powerful film captures the unique socio-emotional experiences of students, scientists, faculty, administrators, and medical professionals from underrepresented and marginalized groups who are pursuing, in, and/or have left STEM fields. It provides the opportunity to reflect on cultural and systemic obstacles that are limiting inclusion for certain groups in STEM and helps create context, language, methods, strategies, and spaces, to help invested communities and individuals develop ways to address these important, sensitive issues and subjects.
Links to view the film through a streaming platform will be shared on June 17, allowing a full week for participants to view the film before we meet as a group for a moderated discussion on June 24 at noon ET. Please join us at that time for a frank conversation about some of the topics addressed in the film and to discuss how we can work together to mitigate barriers and ensure equity and inclusivity for all.
Register: To allow everyone interested to participate, please register in advance by June 16.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting, and on June 17 the link to the film will be shared with all who have registered.
