The Great Lakes region is a uniquely challenging environment for oil spill preparedness and response. In 2018, Congress established the U.S. Coast Guard Great Lakes Oil Spill Center of Expertise (GLCOE). GLCOE’s mission is to operationalize innovative ideas that improve freshwater and icy water oil spill responses. In his presentation, Commander Kit Pace will provide a brief background on GLCOE and its capacity-building initiatives, recent projects, and potential partnerships.
